PlayStation is a video game system created by Sony that has had three other installments; PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation Portable (PSP). Hundreds of different video games have been created and released on the original PlayStation system with millions of copies of each game sold across not only the United States but also across the globe. #4: Tomb Raider II (8 million copies sold): This game, as with all the others in the series, is based around the main character of Lara Croft. This game was released in 1997 and featured other characters including Winston, Marco Bartoli and Brother Chan Barkhang.
#3: Gran Turismo 2 (9.37 million copies sold): The game was released in 1999 and was a sequel to Gran Turismo, quickly becoming one of the best selling games of all-time on the PlayStation console. Since its release, it has sold over 9 million copies and has become a Sony Greatest Hits game because it is so popular. The game is a driving simulator/racing game that allows the player to compete against computer generated race drivers on custom racetracks.
#2: Final Fantasy VII (9.8 million copies sold): The game was released in 1999 and is the first in the Final Fantasy series to use 3D graphics, which features fully rendered characters on pre-rendered backgrounds. The story is centered around mercenary Cloud Strife, who joins an alliance with others to stop a megacorporation known as Shinra, which is draining the life of the planet. Strife and his allies must then battle the game's main antagonist, Sephiroth.
#1: Gran Turismo (10.85 million copies sold): This game is above and beyond the bestselling video game to ever hit the PlayStation console. With just under 11 million copies sold Gran Turismo can be considered the most popular PlayStation video game of all-time. This game is the first in the Gran Turismo series, which is a racing series, which allows the player to race cars against computer generated racecar drivers on custom racetracks. This game was originally released in 1998 in North America. When the game was originally released it received incredible support from critics of the video game industry. The game received a 9.5 out of 10 from IGN, an 8.6 out of 10 from GameSpot, and a 5 out of 5 from PlayStation Magazine.
